Rhythm & Flow: Providing Connection & Communication

I had the privilege to attend and assist in the production of Tmrw.Tday, a cultural yoga and music festival situated on the white sandy shores of Negril, Jamaica earlier this month. The 6-day event left me in awe of such camaraderie with strangers, friends and local Jamaicans; mesmerized with the turquoise, jewel-toned seas and lush plant-life backdrop, abundance of yogic knowledge, philosophy, and mantra; and fluidity within my own joints and mobility with the diverse range of music. Everything from reggaeton, hip hop, tribal beats, house, funk, and soul, echoed on the beachside, during the classes, and during the evening events at partnered venues and local boutique hotels. There was an absolute resonance of shared energy among all the festival attendees and citizens of the lush island that had to be explored.

The connection we developed with the earth, the sand between our toes, the sweet salty air, and the sparkling hues of the water really set forth an incredible realization to slow down, respect the body’s mutable abilities of being still, and respecting the land on which provided us with a plethora of tropical fruits, aloe to soothe and nourish our skin, and local herbs and hallucinogenics that amplified our understanding of this very connection.

You don’t always need a beach destination or getaway to find the tranquility of delving into a mindfulness practice of appreciation. The simple slowing down and marvel at every day moments (i.e. after you get a promotion, rewarding yourself with dessert, the glow from playing with children)
